Born and raised in Newport News, VA, fitness and sports has always been a part of Qhiyal’s life. He first encountered the sport of track field when he was 16 years old. Qhiyal is a 4x State Champion, former D1 athlete(UNC Chapel Hill and Hampton University), Newport News Public Schools Hall of Famer(inducted 2024), and a former All-American All-ACC. His performance as a track and field athlete awarded Qhiyal the opportunities to attend both is alma maters on full athletic scholarship.
During his junior year of high school, Qhiyal experienced a hamstring tear injury. Going through all the rehabilitation to be able to run again peaked Qhiyal’s interest with a career in sports medicine specializing in athletic training and sports rehabiliation. While pursuing his graduate studies, Qhiyal lost close family members as a result of health issues from obesity and sedentary lifestyles. He shifted his career goals to where he could work more with the general public, helping others learn to lead healthier lives.
Qhiyal is currently training to be a professional sprinter. His athletic performance during the spring semester of 2024 has granted an opportunity to run in the qualifying races for the 2025 World Track & Field Championships.
Outside of sports and fitness, Qhiyal enjoys playing video games and reading books.
“The world of sports allowed me to reach new heights. I’m really excited to work with the clients at Ghent Fit because I want to help them enjoy life and live a long healthy life alongside their loved ones.”
